OzWIT 2009: if energy could be bottled IT enrolments would be tripling

The energy levels at the ‘Speed Networking’ event held at the Australian Celebration of Women in ICT conference on December 1st had to be seen to be believed! Women from ICT industries such as Google and IBM, organisations like ACS and Victorian ICT for Women Network, as well as academics and students from around Australia and New Zealand used their “30 second self-promotion commercial” to expand their networks, promote their programs and generally have a great time. The noise level was deafening.

This celebration conference is the only event of its type held in Australia. This year’s attendance was the best ever.

Jo Miller, an Australian who has lived in Silicon Valley for 10 years and voted one of their most influential women in 2008, encouraged the audience to develop their own sphere of influence.

The conference was opened by Tony Lupton, Cabinet Secretary and Member for Prahran.

The conference co-chairs, Dr Catherine Lang from Swinburne University, Associate Professor Julie Fisher from Monash University and Dr Annemieke Craig from Deakin University have been involved in some form with this event since its inception in the early 1990s. The energy generated this year was unprecedented, however they encouraged delegates to continue their good work.
